Harold T. Rogers, of Huntington Station, passed away on May 21, 2016. Harold was born Aug. 1, 1943, in Raleigh, NC, to Dorothy and Luther Rogers. In 1947 he moved with his family to Port Washington. Harold
attended the Port Washington schools and graduated from Schreiber High School in 1961. He was a skilled athlete and active participant in the school, where he excelled in football, basketball and track and field. He was later inducted into the Paul D. Schreiber High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
In the 1960s, Harold was a founding member of the Soul Brothers organization, which founded the Soul Brothers Summer Day Camp for local youth. During his career he was employed by British Industries, Gould and Nassau County in human relations and, lastly, until retirement, by the Department of Transportation of New York State as a Specialist II Compliance officer. Harold was a human rights activist, member of the Rainbow Coalition
and executive member of the NAACP and Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
Harold had an outgoing personality and a determination to assist others. He dearly loved and was loved by his family and community. He enjoyed music, all sports, particularly playing tennis and traveling. Harold showed an indomitable spirit and sense of optimism throughout his illness.
Harold was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Lee Rogers, and his father, Luther Rogers, Jr. He leaves to mourn his wife, Sandra R. Rogers; daughters Alexandra Y. Rogers and Anesha Rogers; two sisters, Joyce Rogers and Elaine Gross; brother-in-law, Jess Gross; nephew, Alex Gross; and numerous family and friends.
Final arrangements were entrusted to Oyster Bay Funeral Home. Service was held May 27, at Hood A.M.E. Zion Church and the interment at Pine Hollow Cemetery, both in Oyster Bay.
