Jose Velasquez, 20, was the overall winner of the third race in the 2016 Jonas Chiropractic Run Nassau Series, which was held on June 23 on the grounds of the Old Bethpage Village Restoration.
Velasquez, a graduate of Jericho High School, who now does much of his running for the Adelphi University track team, covered the 3.107 mile course in 16 minutes, 59 seconds, giving him a winning margin of more than two full minutes over runner-up Joe Flick of Farmingdale.
The Jonas Chiropractic Run Nassau Series is co-hosted by the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums and the Greater Long Island Running Club. The goal of the series is to show off the great parks of Nassau County as outstanding places for runners to gather and it has certainly met that goal in 2016.
“Nassau County is a great place to run and there are no better venues for doing so than our parks,” said race co-director Larry Kurtzman of the Greater Long Island Running Club. “Our thanks to Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and the great folks who manage Nassau’s parks for their support of the Jonas Chiropractic Series.”
The final race in the series will cover four miles at Eisenhower Park on July 14. Registration is still open for this final race and the great post-race party that will follow it. Call the Greater Long Island Running Club at 516-349-7646 for more information.
