Seventh Squad detectives report the arrest of a Lynbrook man for incidents that occurred on Tuesday, July 12, at 4:30 a.m. in Massapequa.
According to detectives, Seventh Precinct officers received a call for a male subject, larceny in progress, at a Massapequa Avenue residence. Responding officers, who obtained a description of the subject, canvassed the area and located the subject, Mark Yanega, 33, walking northbound on Hicksville Road. Yanega, who was carrying a plastic bag, then fled on foot causing officers to pursue him. After a brief foot pursuit Yanega was apprehended and placed into custody. Inside the bag were proceeds of thefts from two unlocked vehicles; one on Massapequa Avenue and the other from a Roosevelt Place address. Items included money, a driver’s license, railroad pass, assorted gift cards, and two credit cards.
Yanega is charged with fourth degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and two (2) counts of fifth degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. He will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on July 12.
