Officers are responded to a report of a two vehicle accident on Old Country Road, where one of the vehicles, a gray four-door sedan, reportedly left the scene without stopping.

As a result of a traffic investigation on Clinton Road and Willow Street, Officer Sansone impounded a vehicle and charged the driver, a 28-year-old Hempstead male, with multiple violations including driving with a suspended license, excessive speed (50 mph in a 30 mph zone), switched license plates and unregistered vehicle.

A Garden City police officer was operating his police vehicle on North Avenue when a tennis ball suddenly struck the driver’s side window inches from the officer’s face, causing the vehicle to swerve from its lane of travel. The officer prevented an accident by applying emergency maneuvers and brake application. As the officer exited his vehicle, he observed subjects running through shrubbery onto the railroad tracks. As the officer gave chase, he suffered a leg injury. The investigation is continuing.

Officer Pumilia arrested a 30-year-old male from Adelphi, MD, on Clinton Road for DWI and unsafe lane usage.

Officer McCann responded to the Mint Restaurant on Ring Road for a disturbance. Upon investigation, the officer arrested a 31-year-old Far Rockaway male for punching a male victim causing lacerations to his head and neck. The subject was charged with assault.

Officers safeguarded a sinkhole on Spruce Street. The Garden City Department of Public Works responded and rendered the area safe.

Officer Bandl arrested a 38-year-old Jacksonville, FL male on Franklin Avenue for DWI, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and unsafe lane usage.

Officers assisted the Garden City Fire Department with a fire alarm call on Franklin Avenue followed by another fire alarm call on Seventh Street.

Officer Baker responded to a traffic dispute at Adelphi University resulting in the arrest of a 21-year-old Malverne male for assault, criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident. The subject fled the scene of an accident on the campus and when the other driver, a 62-year-old West Babylon male, attempted to stop him, the subject struck him in the face causing facial injuries and damage to his glasses.

Garden City detectives arrested an 18-year-old Stewart Manor male for leaving the scene of a three-vehicle accident with injury, which occurred on May 19 on Rockaway Avenue. A passenger in one of the vehicles was injured. In addition, the subject was charged with unlicensed operation.
