Barbara Ruth Steinberg passed peacefully into eternal rest on July 1 at North Shore Hospital at age 90.
She was born Barbara Ruth Craft in Ferriday, LA. She was a Great Neck resident for 63 years, and in her younger years, she was very active with the Asthma and Allergy Foundation and the North Shore Animal League.
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend to many and always had time for others. She worked for many years in the restaurant business, which included the Scobee Grill, Greenbrier and Seven Seas on Northern Boulevard. To all those who knew and loved her, she never lost her southern charm or her sweet southern drawl.
Barbara is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Karen Steinberg of Decatur, GA; her daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Bob Gnuse of Denver, CO; Susan and Art Smith of Beacon, NY; and Shelley and EJ Greenbaum of Great Neck; and her son-in-law Joe Strickland of Carmel, CA. She was predeceased by her daughter, Leslie Steinberg Strickland. Barbara was a doting grandmother to her 10 grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Jessica, Matthew, Stacy, Eric, Ben, Olivia, Artie, Hannah, Jordan and Zachary.
A memorial service will be held in her honor as a celebration of her life on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the Christ Methodist Church in Beacon, NY. In loving memory, donations can be made at the St. Anastasia Leisure Club of Little Neck or the Great Neck Breast Cancer Coalition.
