North Massapequa Fire Department recently honored longtime Ladder Company 1 member Fred Proverdi (center) with a humanitarian award for his more than 50 years of distinguished service to the department and his community.
Proverdi is also a United States WWII Navy veteran, having participated in the Normandy invasion on D-Day. On hand (left to right) were second assistant chief James M.
