Running for State Assembly

My name is Matt Varvaro, and I am running for State Assembly here in Manhasset. As a lifelong resident of our district, I understand the issues facing our community and want to address them on your behalf.

My number one priority will be ending corruption in Albany. It seems that you can’t go a day without hearing about another Albany politician engaged in some form of public corruption. This is completely unacceptable. Elected officials should work for the people; not the other way around.

When I get to Albany, I will introduce comprehensive ethics reform that will help to end corruption and restore faith in state government. That reform will include term limits, tougher penalties for corrupt politicians, an ethics board with teeth, and greater government transparency. It will also include an overhaul of the state contracting and grant process, in order to prevent grants and contracts from ending up in the hands of campaign contributors.

Not only is our state government corrupt; it’s also bloated and expensive. High taxes and burdensome regulations are driving New Yorkers out of state. Long Island is simply becoming too expensive for many families and small businesses. When I get to Albany, I will fight to reduce the size of state government, reform the tax code, lower tax rates and end crushing and unnecessary regulations.

I have always believed deeply in public service. In fact, I worked as a policy aide to former Governor George Pataki, and I served the constituents of North Hempstead as a legislative aide to Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio. I am now running for office myself because our state government is fundamentally flawed and I would like to help fix it. I encourage you to join our team!
