The Great Neck Alert Junior Firefighters attended a presentation given by world-renowned speaker Fire Chief Billy Goldfeder. Sponsored by the Nassau County Junior Firefighters Association, the event took place at the Mineola Fire Department, where approximately 200 Nassau County junior firefighters and about 40 advisors were in attendance.
In his presentation, Firefighter Close Calls and Fire Safety, Chief Goldfeder shared real-life stories from some of the country’s greatest firefighters, fire officers and emergency responders. These stories revealed the many perspectives of the emergency service experience and offered valuable, and often hard-won, lessons.
The goal of Chief Goldfeder’s presentation was to teach firefighters, young and old, to learn from past mistakes. He analyzed real-life situations and explained what went right, what went wrong and what improvements could have been made. A firefighter since 1973, Chief Goldfeder began his career as an officer with the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department. He currently serves as the Deputy Fire Chief of the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department in Southwest Ohio.
