Thomaston’s Solar Initiative

Solar

Village of Thomaston Mayor Steven Weinberg hopes to create a program for residents interested in installing a solar electric system, which is better for the environment and, once installed, is much more economical. While this program has not yet been formalized, the mayor wants residents to be aware that New York State has implemented a subsidized loan program (Smart Energy Loan by Energy Finance Solutions) to help finance residential solar electricity systems and other energy improvements. The current rate of 3.49 percent will increase to 4.99 to 7.99 percent on Sept. 1., so anyone considering solar energy within the next year should apply for the loan before Aug. 31 to lock in the lower rate. Applying for the loan is not a commitment to buy, and residents would have one year to use it.

The application is available at www.energyfinancesolutions.com/forhomeowners-apply-now. For more information, visit www.villageofthomaston.org.
