Democrat Adam Haber and Republican Elaine Phillips, who are running for New York State Senate, will answer questions from the community at a program open to the public at Temple Israel of Great Neck on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m. The senate seat became vacant after many years when incumbent Senator Jack M. Martins decided to run for Congress.
Sponsored by the Men’s Club, the program will be moderated by Democratic Club President and Temple Israel Past President Steven Markowitz and Republican Club President and Temple Israel Men’s Club Past President Marc Katz.
Haber, a Roslyn School Board member, unsuccessfully challenged Martins in 2014 for the senate post and previously sought the Democratic nomination for Nassau County Executive. He’s a former commodities trader turned restaurateur, who’s currently serving his third term on the school board.
Phillips is currently serving her third term as mayor of the Village of Flower Hill on the southernmost tip of Port Washington. Her former career was in finance on Wall Street.
