Allison Zhao Selected For AAJC Summit

Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC), a prominent nonprofit dedicated to advocating for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, announced that Allison Zhao of Great Neck is one of a select group of 21 emerging AAPI leaders across the country chosen to participate in AAJC’s annual AAPI Youth Leadership Summit from Sept. 22 to 24.

Zhao was selected because of her desire to be active in the local community and learn advocacy in the heart of American democracy—Washington, DC. The three-day summit will allow Zhao to interact with fellow emerging AAPI organizers and garner a greater understanding of the policy and civil rights issues that impact the AAPI community through activities, including networking with like-minded peers and professionals at the White House and engaging with Congressional representatives on Capitol Hill. The summit’s interactive workshops are designed to foster civic engagement and provide the tools necessary to advance AAPI advocacy work in local communities.

“The young men and women selected for this Youth Summit are future leaders of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community—they are our future politicians, our future advocates,” said Mee Moua, president and executive director of AAJC. “It’s important that we provide them with the proper tools and guidance to lead our community in the right direction.”
