Visitors to Clark Botanic Garden can now learn more about the beautiful birds that live on the property, thanks to a brochure created by Williston Park resident Avery Scott. The 14-year-old, who recently contributed 20 bird nest boxes to Clark Botanic Garden and was named the American Birding Association’s (ABA) 2016 Young Birder of the Year in the 10-13 year old category, assisted the Town of North Hempstead in creating a brochure which identifies the different birds at Clark Botanic Garden.
“The Town of North Hempstead is so proud of Avery and his birding project,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “Having a robust population of birds in our garden is of great value to all the living creatures and plants that live here, and a tremendous benefit to the visitors of Clark Botanic Garden, as well. We hope that visitors to our garden will be able to enjoy viewing the different birds who call Clark home.”
Scott has been an avid birder since he spotted a red-tailed hawk at the age of eight. He has been coming to Clark Botanic Garden with his parents since he was born. Scott is intent on sharing his love of birding with any and all visitors at Clark Botanic Garden and his brochure lists some of the birds that have been seen at the garden, including the Baltimore Oriole, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Chipping Sparrow, Solitary Sandpiper, Cedar Waxwing, Gray Catbird and many more.
Clark Botanic Garden is located at 193 I.U. Willets Road in Albertson. To see Scott’s brochure documenting all the avian visitors to Clark see http://tinyurl.com/birdsofclark.
