Submissions to the eighth annual Town of North Hempstead Recycled Artwork Contest are due on Thursday, Dec. 1.
The Recycled Artwork Contest provides students an opportunity to harness their creativity while promoting recycling in their schools and local communities in an effort to better the environment. The town invites young minds to come together and collaborate with one powerful message in mind: Recycle, Reuse and Rethink.
The Recycled Artwork Contest has featured hundreds of entries and thousands of participants. All students in grades K to 12 in Town of North Hempstead school districts, or who live in the town, are welcome to participate. Submissions must be made by a student or group of students, and are limited to one submission per student or group. All entries must use reclaimed, recyclable materials made of metals, paper, rubber, plastic or cloth, but no glass.
Artwork must be labeled and submitted on Mondays through Thursdays at either the “Yes We Can” Community Center at 141 Garden St. in Westbury from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. or at the Solid Waste Management Authority Office at 802 West Shore Rd. in Port Washington from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Entries will be judged by the North Hempstead Arts Advisory Committee. Winners will be honored at a special reception at the “Yes We Can” Community Center on Monday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. All entries will be displayed through Jan. 1, 2017, in the center’s gallery.
