Patty Katz announced her candidacy for the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District’s (GNWPCD) Board of Commissioners on Election Day, Nov. 8. Katz, a longtime Great Neck resident and local pioneer of environmental protection, is seeking to continue her advocacy work as a district commissioner.
“Over the coming weeks, I look forward to meeting with community members to discuss our mutual commitment to protecting the environment and vigorously working to earn the vote of the community,” said Katz. “The Great Neck Water Pollution Control District has been a steady leader in the wastewater industry and if I am honored to serve as commissioner, I will work diligently to continue the district’s path of fiscal responsibility and environmental success.”
Katz has extensive experience in civic and community activism. She is vice president of Reach Out America (ROA) and founded ROA’s Green Committee, which she chaired for nine years. Katz’s leadership has been pivotal in numerous initiatives, including securing recycling bins in the Great Neck Park District and organizing local fundraisers for borehole wells in underprivileged regions of Africa.
Katz has also been a member of the Town of North Hempstead’s Environmental Legacy Fund for Land Preservation as well as its Ecological Commission. In recognition of her community service and environmental activism, Katz was added to the May W. Newburger Women’s Roll of Honor.
The election for GNWPCD Board of Commissioners will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 1 to 9 p.m. at both the Great Neck Social Center and Great Neck House.
