Cold Spring Harbor Home Invasion Suspect Arrested on Thanksgiving

A Cold Spring Harbor home invasion suspect who assaulted an 85-year-old woman was arrested after being overpowered by family members on the night of Thanksgiving, Suffolk County police said.

Jeffrey Rice entered an unlocked side door of a home on Fox Hunt Lane, found a kitchen knife in the house and went upstairs into a room occupied by the victim and her 7-year-old niece at 11 p.m. Thursday, police said.

After Rice assaulted the woman, he was confronted by the 35-year-old female homeowner and got into a scuffle with her 37-year-old husband, who escorted the suspect outside the with the help of his brother and brother-in-law, police said.

The family held Rice outside until police arrived, authorities said. Second Precinct officers arrested Rice and charged him with first-degree burglary.

The victim was taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
