South High School musicians will perform Winter Concert II on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium at 341 Lakeville Rd. The concert is free and the public is invited to enjoy this special evening.
The Symphonic Band, Chamber String Orchestra, Chamber Symphony Orchestra and five choral groups, including the Concert Choir, will be featured.
Symphonic Band will open with Sousa’s “El Capitan March,” “The Light Eternal,” highlights from My Fair Lady and “Heroic Sketches.” Vocal ensembles will follow with the Chamber Choir singing “All Ye Who Love Music,” Jazz Choir performing Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies,” South Singers performing “Royals” and Broadway presenting “When You’re an Addams” from The Addams Family. The Concert Choir will present “Paratum cor eius” from Beatus Vir by Vivaldi, “Under the Willow Tree” from Vanessa by Barber, “Sing a Song of Sixpence” by Rutter, the traditional “Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child” and selections from My Fair Lady by Lowe.
The Chamber String Orchestra will follow with “Serenade in E Major Op. 22” by Dvorák. The Chamber Symphony Orchestra will close the show with “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24” by Paul O’Neil and Robert Kinkel, “Danse Macabre–Poème Symphonique” by Camille Saint-Saëns with Christine Suh soloing on violin, excerpts from Brigadoon by Frederic Loewe, Die Fledermaus Overture Op. 362 by Johann Strauss, Jr., and “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.
