Patchogue Woman Dies in Smith Haven Mall Crash

A 77-year-old Patchogue woman who died after a car crash at Smith Haven Mall over the Christmas holiday weekend may have suffered a medical emergency, Suffolk County police said.

Margherita Giaquinto was driving a Mercedes-Benz in the parking lot of the mall in Lake Grove when she struck a pole and the building at 2 p.m. Friday, police said.

The victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Fourth Squad detectives impounded the vehicle and are continuing the investigation.
