North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth welcomed the semifinalists of this year’s Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology to town hall on Tuesday, Dec. 13. The competition, established by the Siemens Foundation in 1999, is one of the nation’s premiere science research competitions for high school students.
“We are so proud that 25 of the semifinalists are members of the North Hempstead community,” said Bosworth. “This once again reminds us of not only the top-notch quality of our schools in North Hempstead, but also the amazing administrators, educators and students that we have.”
This year’s 25 semifinalists and finalists from North Hempstead schools are Luhan Chen from Great Neck North High and Shawn Kang, Hanxuan Kuang, Jaysen Zhang and Aric Zhuang from Great Neck South. From Manhasset Senior High School, Rachel Chang, Tiffeny Chen, Fred Chu (finalist), Emma Fleishman, Elin Hu, Summar Khan, Ashley Kim, Richard Lee, Stephen Lee (finalist), Matthew Palmadessa, William Peng, Sung Woo Seo, Ryan Thorpe, Bart Voto and Vanessa Zhang were honored. From Paul D. Schreiber High School in Port Washington, Sarah Gottesman, Caroline Katz and Rebecca Muratore were honored, as well as Eunice Kim from Roslyn High School and Natalie Tan from Herricks High School.
