heritage_012517abPlainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School student Kiana Ziadkhanour was recently named one of four winners for her essay submission to the Optimum/Altice Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest. The contest was open to all high school and middle school students who live or attend school in an Optimum or Suddenlink service area, and Ziadkhanour’s essay was one of 1,200 essays submitted.

The student’s essay focused on Christina Figueres, a former executive at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) in conjunction with this year’s task, challenging students to explain what Latino—past or present—they would like to spend a day with. Ziadkhanour chose Figueres because of her personal interest in the UN and one of the reasons she chose to join Model UN club at school. For her achievement, Ziadkhanour received a certificate and iPad Mini.
