Welcome to Roslyn Magazine
The Village of Roslyn has been around since 1633. And while Anton Media Group hasn’t been around that long, we’ve nonetheless taken great pride in covering this unique community through our weekly newspaper ever since 1877. More recently, we’ve expanded into cyberspace through our website, www.roslyn-news.com. Roslyn Magazine is yet another outlet we’ve been using to sing the praises of this culturally and historically rich community.
Longtime Roslyn News editor and historical ace Joe Scotchie takes us back in time with a piece that not only tells the story behind local landmarks like the Bryant Library, Roslyn Cemetery, Valentine House and Cedarmere, but he also chronicles Roslyn’s basketball program and the background of the horse statue in Gerry Park that is originally from the Mackay Estate.
We also take time to highlight some of the special corners of the village, whether it’s Kimberly Dijkstra sharing spring fashion finds, Nicole Lockwood chatting with Roslyn Village Gallery owner Marsha Tarlow, Betsy Abraham checking into the Roslyn Hotel, Christina Claus creating a timeline of Roslyn homes from the past to the present or Alexandra Civorelli whetting our appetite by writing about the Jolly Fisherman (Roslyn’s oldest restaurant) and a number of other local eateries. But it’s really people that make up the fabric of Roslyn.
To that end, managing editor Jennifer Fauci not only takes us behind the scenes of the charitable works that the Junior League regularly partakes in, but she sits down with plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Neumann of Roslyn Heights to discuss body sculpting and also visits the world of professional sports via her conversation with North Shore resident and ESPN NFL analyst Adam Schefter.
As you can see, there’s plenty to dive into as we scratch the surface of what makes this community so wonderful.
