More than 3,000 children from Great Neck and the surrounding community baked matzah with The Traveling Matzah Bakery, thanks to Rabbi Dovid and Chumy Ezagui of Lake Success Chabad, who organized the events.
The Traveling Matzah Bakery visited local schools and synagogues, including Silverstein Hebrew Academy, North Shore Hebrew Academy, JLE Hebrew School, Friedberg JCC, MIYJCC, Shelter Rock Jewish Center, Lurie Academy, Barkai School, Yeshiva of Long Island, Temple Sinai and Solomon Schechter.
Children had the opportunity to make their very own matzah, taking turns producing flour from wheat kernels and separating the chaff from the grain. Students then collected the grain into a hand-driven wheat mill and grinded it into flour. They then rolled up their sleeves and got ready for lots of fun as they kneaded, rolled and baked the dough into a handmade matzah. The young chefs wore baker’s hats and aprons as they put their culinary skills to the test.
