In preparation of Passover, Silverstein Hebrew Academy (SHA) organized a hands-on learning activity led by The Traveling Matzah Bakery, where more than 170 students from preschool through fourth grade made their very own freshly baked matzah on Wednesday, March 29.
Accessorized in baker’s hats, the children took turns producing flour from wheat kernels, winnow and separating the chaff from the grain; collecting the grain into a hand-driven wheat mill and grinding it into flour; and kneading, rolling and baking the dough to create
the unleavened flatbread, which is an integral element of the holiday.
