We’d like to thank you for your outpouring of support during the ongoing uncertainty regarding EMS services on the Great Neck peninsula. Everyone here at Vigilant Fire Company is grateful for the incredible backing the Great Neck community has expressed over the past several weeks as discussions with the villages of Great Neck, Saddle Rock and Kings Point continue.
The community’s eagerness to speak out on behalf of our services and members has provided a platform to move this imperative conversation to the forefront. The overwhelming support has been humbling. It’s given us an opportunity to reflect on the incredible legacy that former Vigilant members have left behind—a legacy that we hope to carry on for future generations.
As we celebrate our 80th anniversary of Vigilant providing EMS services to the communities north of the Long Island Rail Road in Great Neck, we have been faced with a crossroads. Residents have grown accustomed to the first-class, community-oriented services that we have provided for decades. With a volunteer base of lifelong residents, we know the local families, we know the streets and we know the needs of our community.
While we continue to work towards a definitive resolution, contracts have yet to be signed. In the coming weeks we hope village mayors come to an agreement to have our group of highly trained community members continue responding to emergency calls in our villages for years to come.
Once again, thank you for your continued support. In the meantime, we will be here answering the call.
