Port Summer Show Presents All Shook Up

AllShookUp 051717AThe Port Summer Show, a Port Washington institution since 1972, will celebrate its 45th anniversary this summer with their premiere production of All Shook Up.

To commemorate this exciting event, the Port Summer Show has commissioned a brand new logo celebrating the group’s roots in our waterfront community with soft, summery colors and a nod to their first performances at the John Phillip Sousa Band Shell nearby the beautiful town dock. They have also launched a newly designed website full of hundreds of photographs from past and present shows, as well as audition information, parent volunteer activities, an alumni sign-up and all things Port Summer Show.

Every August since its inaugural production, Port Summer Show, a nonprofit teen theater program, has been producing wonderful Broadway musicals for the community. These top-quality performances, professionally directed and choreographed, give our town’s teenagers, grades 7 through 12, a unique opportunity to be involved in all aspects of production, both on and off the stage. Parent volunteers are integral in creating and producing the shows each year. The Port Summer Show is a family that transcends time since participants continue to return well into adulthood to encourage and support the current performers.

This summer, Port Summer Show will honor Robert Harding, Jr., his family and Harding Real Estate. Harding, who passed away in the summer of 2016, was one of the first benefactors of PSS and was one of its first major since 1980.

As 2017 marks the 40th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death, Port Summer Show is mounting All Shook Up, a jukebox musical with the songs of Elvis Presley and a story based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. The Port Summer Show’s 2017 production will be directed by Jason Summers, a Port Summer Show veteran of 14 years. Taking place in 1955, the story combines one girl’s dream with a surprise visit from a mysterious leather-jacketed, guitar-playing stranger to help a small town discover the magic of romance and the power of Rock & Roll. Among the 24 songs featured in the score are classics like “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Love Me Tender,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and, of course, the title tune.

This highly energetic Rock n’ Roll musical will be fun for the whole family and will be the first theater production in the newly renovated Schreiber High School Auditorium.

Auditions for All Shook Up will be held on Monday, May 22, and Tuesday, May 23, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each evening at Sousa Elementary School. Callbacks will be on held on Tuesday, May 30.

Come prepared to sing approximately 32 bars of a “pop” song. Bring sheet music or a karaoke track on your phone (a capella singing is not suggested). A short dance audition will be taught, so please bring dance clothes. For additional information, visit www.portsummershow.org or The Port Summer Show Facebook page.
