A Uniondale man was convicted Thursday of manslaughter for killing an 18-month old boy he was babysitting while the child’s mother was at work three years ago.

A Nassau County jury found Lord Pardo guilty of manslaughter following a four-week-long trial and about two days of deliberations. He was acquitted of second-degree murder.

“This defendant brutally beat a precious and innocent little boy, and the toddler ultimately died from the catastrophic injuries he caused,” Nassau County District Attorney Madeline said.

Prosecutors said the 28-year-old man beat the toddler, who suffered from massive abdominal injuries, including a lacerated liver, internal bleeding, and other injuries on Oct. 11, 2015.

The victim was pronounced dead that afternoon at a local hospital. The victim was not related to the Pardo, who was also watching his infant daughter at the time. Police arrested him the next day.

Lord faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 9 by Judge Jerald Carter.
