Herricks High School congratulates 2017 graduate and varsity football player Mike Saleme for his excellence on the field at the 22nd annual Empire Challenge Game, held on June 21 at Hofstra University’s Shuart Stadium.
Also known as the Boomer Bowl, this annual event features the Long Island All-Stars versus the NYC All-Stars, and represents the best of the best in high school football.
Each year, coaches select the top high school football athletes from Long Island to compete against those from New York City. Saleme is the first Herricks Highlander to have been selected and represented his district and community with outstanding sportsmanship and skill. New York City beat Long Island 37-35 on a last minute field goal. Saleme started the game at wide receiver and had one reception for 10 yards. He also played on special teams.
Saleme is one of the most prolific receivers in Herricks history. He totaled 75 receptions for 1,165 yards and 14 touchdowns for his career. He will go on to play Division I football at Stony Brook University next year.
