Daniel Jones was named an assistant men’s basketball coach at Rhode Island College.

Daniel “DJ” Jones, a 2008 graduate of Great Neck South High School, was named as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Rhode Island College (RIC) in Providence. Jones will assist head men’s basketball coach Michael Byrnes with recruiting, scouting, administering practice and game coaching.

Previously, Jones was an assistant men’s basketball coach at Medaille College in Buffalo for two years, where he helped lead the team to an AMCC Championship and an NCAA Division III tournament appearance. He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education from Hofstra University.

“I’m very excited to add DJ to my staff,” said Byrnes. “He will be a huge addition to our athletic program. He helped assist Medaille College and Coach Blaine to the NCAA Tournament this past season. He is a tireless worker and has a passion for college basketball. He helped mentor three of my former Winchendon School players while he worked as a basketball manager at Hofstra University.”

Jones served as the Hofstra team manager both as an undergraduate and graduate student. He earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and American studies in 2012 and earned a master’s degree in education in 2015.

“I would like to thank Coach Byrnes and Athletic Director Don Tencher for the opportunity to be part of a storied basketball program here at RIC,” said Jones. “I look forward to working with Coach Byrnes and learning from him and to be part of the Anchormen community.”
