Our first weekly commentary column of all things basketball-related in Great Neck
November is here and that means turning back the clocks, colder weather and hitting the hardwood.
As many Great Neck residents are feeling the positive energy from the surging New York Knicks, middle school tryouts are underway and local leagues are practicing around the clock, getting ready for their upcoming seasons. The Jewish Basketball League, Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), Great Neck Wolfpack, Police Athletic League (PAL) and the upcoming Great Neck Basketball Academy are the youth organizations where budding local stars are nurturing their talent.
But, the largest talent pool will be found on Polo Road as Great Neck North High School returns 11 seniors this year and, with its new head coach, is a preseason favorite by many to win the conference. With the return of the entire starting five, it should be an exciting and successful season as tryouts began on Nov. 13.
