Sephardic Heritage Alliance, Inc. (SHAI) recently elected its 2017–18 Board of Trustees, who are pictured above.

Founded 26 years ago with a mission to support positive assimilation of Iranian-American Jews in New York and preserve their distinctive heritage, the group has since evolved into a dynamic multifaceted organization, counting more than 1,200 families amongst its members.

In partnerships with community institutions, such as the Town of North Hempstead, Great Neck Public Schools, Great Neck Park District and Great Neck Library, SHAI has been a driving force behind civic engagement, charitable causes and communal and cultural activities. In fact, SHAI is the largest nonprofit sponsor of the Town of North Hempstead’s Great Neck Social Center, overseeing programs, workshops and trips for the senior community.

The organization has awarded more than $2.2 million in need-based grants, supporting more than 1,000 young adults in the pursuit of higher education. A relentless promoter
of education, SHAI bestows Awards of Merit to high-achieving local students and professionals at its Biannual Dinner Gala. The next one will be held in March 2018.
