Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency (VSA) honored Kevin Tirman of Freeport as 2017 Volunteer of the Year at their annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the American Legion in Massapequa. Tirman, who is retired from the U.S. Military and the NCPD Marine Bureau, has dedicated his time and effort to giving back to the men and women like him that have served in the United States Armed Forces.

“Congratulations to Kevin Tirman on being named the 2017 Volunteer of the Year, for everything he does in support of our county’s veterans,” said County Executive Mangano. “These brave men and women sacrificed their lives to protect our freedom, and now many are in need of assistance. Volunteers like Kevin donate their time and resources to help their fellow residents most in need, and we owe them our gratitude.”

Nassau County VSA volunteers assist with transporting veterans to and from medical appointments; organizing veterans stand-down events; advocating for veterans at court appearances; and volunteering at food pantries. Just this year the volunteers and the VSA have helped transport over 3,300 veterans to medical appointments and have served over 2,500 Veterans from the food pantry.
