A teenager has been arrested and a second is wanted for allegedly shooting a 35-year-old man to death in the victim’s hometown of Hempstead on Christmas, Nassau County police said.
Shameq Sullins, 16, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder in the shooting of Rafael I. Cepeda, police said. Sullins was the lookout and a second suspect who has yet to be apprehended, 17-year-old Antoine Foster, allegedly fired the shots, police said, noting the teens are members of the Bloods street gang.
Officers had responded to a ShotSpotter alert when they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds on Terrace Avenue at 6:25 p.m. Dec. 25, police said. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he died an hour later.
Sullins, also of Hempstead, pleaded not guilty Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead. He was ordered held without bail.
