Soccer standout makes home debut March 10

Hicksville native Tim Parker, 25, will make his home debut with the New York Red Bulls this Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.

The Red Bulls will open their 23rd Major League Soccer (MLS) season when they host the Portland Timbers.

The son of Ken and Kathy Parker, and brother to Kevin, Parker is a 2011 graduate of Hicksville High School, where he led the Comets to a county championship and was named Gatorade New York Boys Soccer Player of the Year and Nassau County Player of the Year.

He then earned a scholarship to St. John’s University and helped the Red Storm gain three NCAA Division I tournament berths, including a Big East title.

The 6-foot-2, 190-lb. defender was drafted by the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2015 and started 74 of the 76 matches he played in. Reportedly, he was traded to the New York area team when he could not reach an agreement with Vancouver after his three-year contract expired.

With little time to acclimate himself to his new team’s defense, the defender played all 90 minutes on March 7, when the Red Bulls traveled to Tijuana to take on the Xolos in a Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Tournament first round match and came away with what observers said was a stunning 2-0 win.

The norteamericanos will host the team from Baja California in a return match on March 13 at Red Bull Arena.

Saturday’s match will be broadcast on MSG2 and can be heard via Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish on TuneIN.

According to a press release, “Coverage of Saturday’s match on MSG2 begins at 6:30 p.m. with Honda Red Bulls Game Night. Jon Yardley will have the primary play-by-play responsibilities and will be alongside Shep Messing and Michelle Gingras. New York Red Bulls Radio goes live at 6 p.m. with triHonda Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon alongside Steve Jolley. Ernesto Motta will have the Spanish play-by-play call for the New York Red Bulls Radio and will be live at 7 p.m.”
