The hippest place in Roslyn may just be the Shag New York Boutique. Formerly located on Old Northern Boulevard, Shag has relocated to the mall at 17 Lumber Rd. Such boutiques allow Shag to raise money and awareness for many charities in the Roslyn area.
Hope Against Domestic Violence is a project near to Shag’s heart. Co-owners Ann Corn and Randi Butwin were recently honored by Hope for all the fundraising Shag has done for that charity.
“It was one of the best nights of my life, I was so proud,” Corn said.
On March 15, Shag hosted pop-culture artist Hulbert Waldroup, fashion/street art by Spencer Cohen and surf board/multimedia art by Larry Silver. Artists were displayed in a pop-up gallery next door to Shag in the Lumber Road building they moved into last April.
Special thanks to Suzanne Gould, Andi Black, Leah Goldblatt, Cori Goldfarb, Cynthia Simoncic and Gayle Gelbard for helping put together a successful fundraiser. Shag had fashions by local Long Beach designers Two Gypsea Soulz, Miami-based Boho Hunter and Stown by Spencer Cohen. All artists, fashion designers and Shag donated 20 percent of all sales to Hope Charity. For Shag boutiques, the best is yet to come.
