Alert Junior Honored With Special Award

The Great Neck Alert Junior Firefighters presented a special recognition award to Junior Firefighter Jordyn Durham for her attendance record and dedication to the organization throughout the past year.

Durham was a member of the juniors’ muster team and actively participated in junior functions, including meetings, drills and other special events.

Her father, Jerry Durham, was the command chaplain at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, before being reassigned to serve at a naval base in Rhode Island last month.

The junior firefighter will be sorely missed by the friends she made in the program. She said that she would like to start a junior firefighter program at the naval base for teenagers interested in learning about firefighting and rescue skills.

The Alert Junior Firefighters all agreed to provide her with guidance and support as she embarks on her new endeavor.
