After starting the season with three wins and no losses, the Great Neck North JV boys’ soccer team has been defeated during the last three games. This past week found a close game against rival Manhasset. Down early 2-0, Great Neck pounded it out and tied the game 2-2. Unfortunately, a late goal by Manhasset sealed another loss for Great Neck. The two goals by Great Neck were scored by Ben Avacook. We will report on the team’s next home game against Bellmore in next week’s edition.
The Great Neck North Varsity boys’ soccer team also played against Manhasset this week, securing a dominant 3-0 win. A volley from William on the Great Neck squad from almost half field started the early scoring by Great Neck. Aaron Guela, Great Neck’s captain and center defender, was able to protect Manhasset from scoring, along with Toby Nabavian, in making multiple key saves. This week, the varsity team will also play Bellmore, but on their field.
As we went to press, the Great Neck North football team was preparing to lead the homecoming game this past weekend. Many fans were expected to attend the Blazers game against Oyster Bay, which should be exciting as the two evenly matched teams compete.
The Great Neck North girl’s swim team lost a close meet against Levittown this past week. This 36-person swim team is very talented and came up only four points short. Led by Coach Rodriguez, the team continues to swim well and many members hope to make All-State honors.
