At Great Neck Public Schools, 53 seniors have been named commended students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students placed among the top 50,000 of the more than 1.6 million juniors who took the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
North High’s commended students are Maor Amar, Todd Bichoupan, Samuel Calto, Micaela Chin, Aaron Geula, Michelle Goh, Eyal Hakimi, Noah Hanover, Shi-In Kim, Timothy Lee, Bob Qian, Qingyuan Qian, Molly Racsko, Erica Smiley and Sarah Tang.
At South High, commended students are Elana Amir, Heather Cai, Ashley Chen, Jeremy Chen, Rena Chen, Victoria Cheng, Wei-Ching Chi, Eric Cho, Brittney Choi, Jaymin Choi, Sehyun Chung, Patrick Duan, Katie-Ann Fu, Raymond Gresalfi, Andersen Gu, Kenneth Hahn, Kristin Hon, Anthony Hou, Dylan Hsu, Zhen Huang, Raina Kirshnitz, Rachel Kosofsky, Keerthivasan Kumanan, Joyce Lee, Chi Wan Virginia Lo, Michael Lu, Stefan Lungu, Jennifer Luo, Deven Madan, John Mannooparambil, Lenny Meng, Ethan Osman, Seo Hyun Park, Noah Sheidlower, Ann Too, Jeffery Tse, Michelle Zheng and Hannah Zhong.
Although commended students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some become candidates for scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
“These young men and women have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a spokesperson from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. “They represent a valuable national resource. Recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.”
