Star Wars Day Festivities Coming to Long Island

May the Fourth — aka Star Wars Day — falls on a Saturday this year, offering more options to celebrate the popular sci-fi movie series than fans can shake a lightsaber at.

Long Island venues hosting events include Vanderbilt Reichert Planetarium in Centerport, and the South Country Library in Bellport.

“We will explore several space-faring technologies of science fiction and discuss how they could possibly become a reality,” said Vanderbilt astronomer Matt Garber. “We’ll take the audience on a journey to various worlds and famous locations seen throughout the Star Wars saga and make connections between these destinations and real locations that could possibly be lurking within our own galaxy.”

Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters for all three events.

CM Performing Arts Center and Village Idiot Irish Pub are teaming up to celebrate May the Fourth! Event includes: Brunch, Pool Noodle Craft, and Jedi Training with characters you all know and love. Event will be capped at 50 people. CM Performing Arts Center, 931 Montauk Hwy, Oakdale, cmpac.com, Call 631-218-2810 to make Reservations. $20. 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Hone your lightsaber skills with The Saber Guild of Long Island Endor Temple, play games with an R2D2 droid from the Long Island R2 Builders Club, and enjoy crafts, Padawan training, photo ops, stellar giveaways and more! Of course, we’ll also be showing the original Star Wars Trilogy starting at 10 a.m.  South Country Library, 22 Station Rd, Bellport. 1-4 p.m.

Astronomers will act as droids that take the audience on a tour of the Star Wars galaxy. Come 30 minutes before each showtime to enjoy the activities in the decorated Planetarium lobby. The audience will be divided into the Light and Dark sides of the Force and will compete to answer trivia questions. Prizes will be awarded. The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum, 180 Little Neck Rd., Centerport, vanderbiltmuseum.org. $25. 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m.
