7 p.m. Astronomy educator Larry Gerstman will discuss the upcoming Transit of Mercury on Nov. 11, as well as other upcoming sky events. Weather permitting, attendees will have a telescopic viewing outside to see Saturn, the Pleiades and Perseus Double Cluster. No registration is required. Hicksville Public Library.

Virtual Reality Training

Ghosts, Goblins and Witches of Long Island

7 p.m. Join Joseph Flammer and Diane Hill, The Paranormal Adventurers, in an examination of the paranormal activity, such as unexplainable lights in the sky, sightings of strange creatures and apparitions, on Long Island. Paint Night

Halloween Festival

1-4 p.m. Town of Oyster Bay’s Family Fall & Halloween Festival will feature pumpkin picking, hayrides, a hay maze, inflatables, a pumpkin decorating contest, games, giveaways and refreshments. Book to Film Discussion

12 p.m. Join in a discussion of the novel Can You Ever Forgive Me?, the memoir of author Lee Israel, and how it was brought to life on the big screen. Tai Chi

5:30 p.m. Linda Cafiero leads eight sessions of Tai Chi at Hicksville Public Library. Classes will take place Mondays, Oct. 28 through Dec. 23 (no class on Nov. 11). Online registration opens Oct. 10. Fee: $28 check or money order.

Town of Oyster Bay is partnering with Big Hy For Heroes to collect and send thousands of DVDs to U.S. troops serving overseas. Residents can donate DVDs at Hicksville Athletic Center, 167 S. Broadway, Hicksville through Nov. 15. For more information, call 516-624-6380.
