Way to go, Dalers. The Farmingdale High School competition cheer team won the Division I Large School Title at the New York State Championship in Rochester. On behalf of the board of trustees and myself, congratulations to all on your excellence and achievements. Truly spectacular.
Welcome to the Village of Farmingdale, Spirit Taekwondo. It is located at 101 Fulton St. in the Palmer’s Shopping Center.
Village elections will now be held on Tuesday, April 28, from noon to 9 p.m. at village hall. It is only open to registered voters in Nassau County that are village residents.
On behalf of the village board and myself, we would again like to thank Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, Legislator Rose Walker, Legislator James Kennedy and other Nassau County officials for delivering a $150,000 grant check to Farmingdale. The village is one of seven Nassau County towns to be awarded the $150,000 Federal Community Development Block grant. The village will use the grant to improve walkability and pedestrian safety.
A new flag retirement box proudly created and delivered from one Eagle Scout to another. For his Eagle Scout project, Eagle Scout candidate Cody Sapeta made four collection boxes for American flags to be retired. The scouts will collect the flags and perform a flag burning ceremony under the United States flag code. Cody delivered the four collection boxes, one to village hall and three other locations: Town of Oyster Bay Hall, the VFW hall and the Farmingdale Public Library. Truly a splendid Eagle Scout project. On behalf of the board and myself, thanks and congratulations Cody.
The Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society and the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts Committee are planning a presentation by Elizabeth Kahn Kaplan. “Votes For Woman: The Long Road To The 19th Amendment—And The Women (And Men) Who Got Us There.” Most of us know the names of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, but there are others to whom we owe our thanks, including at least one influential resident of Farmingdale, Abigail E. Leonard. This entertaining yet informative talk is set for Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m. at Farmingdale Village Hall. Free to attend and no registration required.
Community members are invited to attend monthly board meetings (with public comment), which are held on the first Monday of each month at 8 p.m. at village hall. The next meeting is April 6. Community input is vital and much appreciated.
Stay tuned for many upcoming community events, sign-up to receive Village emails, text “Farmingdale” to 22828, sign-up on the village’s website at www.farmingdalevillage.com, and stay tuned for more updates. We look forward to seeing everyone downtown. Remember to shop and dine local throughout the village.
