The Blue is back in Islip.

Less than a month after a fire forced The Blue Restaurant & Bar in Islip to close, the restaurant — determined to serve hungry patrons during the pandemic — reopened as a food truck.

Dang! BBQ, also located in Islip, loaned its food truck to The Blue, which got back in business Wednesday while repairs are made to the main restaurant. Althoguh the front of the restaurant is boarded up, the staff is cooking up meals in the food truck in the back parking lot.

“The comeback is always stronger than the setback,” The Blue said on its website. “A special thank you to Dang! BBQ for letting us use their amazing state-of-the-art food truck while we rebuild our restaurant. We would not be here without their support.”

Before the fire, the restaurant appeared to be doing brisk business during the pandemic with cars lined up each night at dinnertime for its $20 appetizer and entree specials. It will be serving up a special food truck menu for the time being.

The white-tablecloth eatery had launched in 2018 as Blue Oyster Seafood & Oyster Bar, but later changed its named to The Blue Restaurant & Bar.

Its temporary hours are 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

The Blue Restaurant & Bar is located at 526 Main St. in Islip. It can be reached at 631-446-4233 or bluelongisland.com
