North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board have announced that fitness instructors will be allowed to conduct classes at town parks. Fitness instructors will need to obtain a permit to hold these classes. The permits will be $25 per hour, and the classes can host up to 25 participants.
“We are doing all that we can to provide local businesses with relief during these challenging times,” Bosworth said. “It is our hope that by allowing fitness classes to take place in our parks, it will relieve some of the burden on gyms and fitness studios due to the pandemic.”
“With the continued mandate to keep small Pilates studios like ourselves closed, we are looking to add outdoor classes and utilize the beautiful spaces available in the parks,” David Lo, Co-Owner of Club Pilates in New Hyde Park, said. “We hope to bring the joy and benefits of Pilates to the community outside our doors and get us all healthier and active.”
To apply for a permit, fitness instructors must call 516-869-6311. Classes can be held during normal park hours, between 8 a.m. and sunset. Participants in the classes must remain 6 feet apart, and masks are required when they are not exercising. For more information about this new program, call 516-869-6311 or 311.
