Westbury Arts held a socially-distanced version of its annual gala on Nov. 14 at Maria SS Dell’Assunta Society in Westbury.
The third annual wine tasting fundraiser featured wines from Spain and Portugal paired with traditional Spanish tapas. Host Sia Zarisfi, a wine consultant from Total Wine, presented each wine, accompanied by tapas prepared by Westbury Arts volunteers Anne and Chuck Albano and Maureen Baranov.
Westbury Arts followed New York State protocols for restaurants, which allowed more than 30 guests to safely enjoy wines from the Rias Baixas, Calatayud and Rioja regions of Spain along with a tawny port from Porto, Portugal. Tapas offered included bacon wrapped stuffed dates, manchego and chorizo pintxos, bistec montaditos and churro chips and chocolate.
The event was sponsored in part by Westbury Mayor Peter and wife Diane Cavallaro and Donohue Cecere Funeral Directors of Westbury. The Westbury High School NJROTC provided an enthusiastic staff of students who acted as servers for the evening. Table decorations were provided by Hicks Nursery, as well as artist volunteers Maureen Baranov and Anne Albano. Raffle prizes were donated by Flowers by Micki and Dr. Jeffrey Zaffos.
Westbury Arts event planners Anne and Chuck Albano, Maureen Baranov, Wendy Liotti, Connie Locascio and Chrissy Shelley, as well as volunteer wine pourers Gloria Roseneau, Judy Stone and Edith Joseph all helped to organize the event.
