Last week, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced a partnership with Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) and the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency (VSA) to begin distributing COVID-19 vaccines to Nassau’s veterans. The vaccinations will be available to all veterans that are residents of Nassau County and are currently eligible for the vaccine under New York State prioritization guidance.

“Nassau County is home to more than 45,000 Veterans and I am dedicated to providing them with access to the COVID-19 vaccine,” Curran said. “Protecting our vets from this deadly disease is the least we can do as they valiantly fought to protect our freedoms. Thank you to NUMC and the Nassau County VSA for their partnership in this very important initiative to get these lifesaving doses into our veteran’s arms.”

The initiative began late last week, starting with 300 doses of the vaccine that was distributed to veterans weekly. Staff from NUMC will distribute the vaccine and the VSA will coordinate registration for eligible veterans. For more information and to make an appointment, call the Nassau VSA at 516-572-6565.
“The Veterans Service Agency is proud to be able facilitate COVID-19 vaccinations for Nassau’s veterans,” Ralph Esposito, Director of Nassau County Veterans Service Agency, said. “Thank you to Nassau County Executive Laura Curran for working to make sure Nassau’s Veterans have access to the COVID-19 vaccine and to NUMC for dedicating staff to administer this vaccine.”

Dr. Anthony Boutin, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer for NuHealth, said they are excited and grateful to Curran for the opportunity to deliver vaccinations to the county’s veterans.
“Teaming up with the Curran administration will expedite the process of delivering vaccinations to our veterans, a group of people who have given so much in the defense of our country,” Dr. Boutin said.

As per New York State prioritization guidance, Nassau County and its partners are only able to vaccinate eligible groups at this time. Visit www.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/phased-distribution-vaccine for more information on who is currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
