It’s time for another Mineola High School Athletic Hall of Fame induction.

This year’s will take place Thursday May 2 at 4:15 before a Mineola High School baseball game against Lynbrook.

This is the hall’s first presentation at a spring event so we hope to see a lot of you there. There will also be a get-together at the Cornerstone Bar and Resturant after the game.

This year’s inductees are the 1956 Nassau County Baseball Champions.

Next up Jim Garvey (1960). Garvey was a top NCAA football, basketball, and lacrosse Official. He officiated four football bowl games including the1987 Cotton Bow and five NCAA basketball championship tournaments.

He also worked 7 NCAA Lacrosse championships including the inaugural game in 1971 and is the only person to ever officiate an Army-Navy football, basketball and lacrosse game.

Frank Spizuoco (1961) an outstanding collegiate baseball pitcher setting numerous pitching records and was a member of the Peru State Hall of Fame. Spirzoco was also a lineman on Mineola’s 1960 Rutgers Cup Football team inducted in the Hall of Fame this past fall

Finally Joe Robinson (1967) Joe worked 50 years in Major League Baseball as a player, coach and scout, 41 years of those years as a Major League baseball scout.

He worked the last 15 with the Arizona Diamondbacks becoming their national scouting supervisor. In 2009 he was inducted into the Midwest Scouting Hall of Fame and he was awarded the Roland Hermond award as Scout of the Year in 2015.
