The Community Chest of Port Washington and the Town of North Hempstead are once again hosting its annual Manhasset Bay Kayak Run, “Paddle for Port”.
The annual, family-friendy event begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 20. Participants will launch from the North Hempstead Town Dock or the Manorhaven Boat Ramp in Port Washington. The participants will then take a leisurely paddle around the bay.
The event is a fundraiser for The Community Chest of Port Washington, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The Community Chest is a non-profit grant-making organization that funds over 28 charitable organizations that benefit Port Washington residents.
Participants can use kayaks, paddle boards or canoes. Atlantic Outfitters (405 Main St.) and Kostal Paddle (158 Manohaven Blvd.) have a discounted rate for rentals available for those who do not own their own supplies.
At the end of the event, a raffle drawing for a brand new kayak will take place at the Town Dock.
The entry fee for adults over 20 is $30 or $45 on the day of the event. The entry fee for young adults and children is $15 or $20 on the day of the event.
Visit www.portchest.org to register and pay online. Registration forms are available at the Town Dock and Atlantic Outfitters. The forms can be dropped off at the Community Chest (382 Main St.) or Atlantic Outfitters (Inspiration Wharf, 405 Main St.).
The “rain” date is scheduled for Sunday, July 21 at 10 a.m.
