TRYOUTS – GIRLS Ull SOCCER:
The New Hyde Park Lady Lynx U11(Current) Girls Soccer Team will be holding tryouts on May 26 and 28 from 5:30 PM until 7:00PM at the Garden City Park School located at 51 Central Ave NHP NY 11040. Interested players, all positions, looking for a competitive D1 LIJSL team moving to U12 and 11v11 next fall, should be at the field at 5:30 PM with shin guards and ball ready to play. All players must be born on or after August 1, 1997.
TOPSOCCER
The overcast skies did not dampen the spirits of the TOPSoccer players and this week had some unprecedented events. Never before had both games ended in a tie with the same identical score of 4-4! The seniors got off to a slow start against the Veterans (coaches and parents) and were trailing at half-time, 2-1. However, they rested up and came out strong with some great teamwork and super passing. Stefani Egre and Andrea Matteo each scored once but it was Sammy Ho who rose to the occasion and blasted home a pair of goals. The Veterans had one goal by Stan and 2 by Darren but the goal which kept the Veterans in the contest was a huge shot from midfield by James past a startled goalie to keep the game within reach.
The Super Grovers tied the Sponge Bobs in the junior match. Sammy Duggan (2 goals), Danny Barber and Harrison Stein (hustling all game) scored the goals for the Super Grovers, while Charlie Hinz was the standout goalie. Tristan Yang, Camilla Dervisevic and Chris Cooney (2 goals) answered for the Sponge Bobs. Josh Birnbaum was a rock solid defender and Andrea Cellucci sparked the offense. Rich Bletsch, Director
GIRLS DIVISION
GU9 PRE-TRAVEL MAJOR: NHP – 1, FARMINGDALE – 1
Under the lights and on turf, the Brown Team girls went toe to toe with a powerful Farmingdale squad that is always a tough assignment. After a scoreless first half, Farmingdale caught us flat-footed and went up 1-0 about 2 minutes into the 2d half. The girls remained relentless though and got the equalizer late in the game with about 5 minutes left. The tying goal was set up by the Goalie, Edna Dudek, who fed the ball to Theodora Papadoniou (on left D) who then made a killer cross-field pass to a streaking Katie Krems (right wing) who broke past the Farmingdale D and buried the ball far post with a defender on her tail. The Lightning D was led by Casey Sanders (super clears), Theodora (great passes), Logan Ward (super tough), Jordyn Siegel (super tough) and Cara Becker (nice moves) who each did a great job breaking up numerous Farmingdale attacks and kept the pressure in the opponent’s zone. The attack was led by Tiffany Velin (great running) on the left, Sophia Leeds (great passing) and Kira Crehan (super running) at Center Mid and Kaitie K on the right, who each did a find job using their speed, making moves, distributing the ball and taking shots. Edna Dudek was superb in goal, once again. The girls continue to impress against the very best U9 teams in Nassau County.
GU9 PRE-TRAVEL INTERMEDIATE: LEVITTOWN – 4, NHP – 1
In a game that was a lot closer than the score indicated, NHP Team Blue came up short for only the first time this Spring against a very very strong Levittown squad. Levittown built a 2-0 lead in the first half before NHP countered with a nifty goal from Kaitlyn to cut the lead in half. Levittown got a third goal to make it 3-1 to end the first half and a fourth goal to make it 4-1 to start the 2d half. Despite having the better of the play in the second half, with Casey Sanders alone applying relentless pressure and just missing on 3 chances, the girls could not get closer. Very nice defending by Lauren Perlman, Bethany Ambrosio, Mackenzie Griffin, Isabel Ugolini and Dylan Sanders, who each did a good job fighting for the ball and breaking up attacks. On our offense was Siobhan McMullan, Deirdre Lynch, Katie K, and the aforementioned Casey Sanders, who each did a fine job making runs on goal and launching shots. In goal was Shayna Zeitlin who did a very nice job holding down the Levittown leviathan in the second half.

LIGHTNING – 4, PANTHERS -1
This Mother’s Day matinee featured several high-flying goals and rock-solid Defense as the Lightning took on the always tough Panther squad. The Lightning got off to a quick start with Deirdre Lynch and Kaitlyn Krems netting goals early on. Sophia Leeds and Cara Becker would then tally with goals of their own before the game settled down into a defensive struggle in the second half. The D of Bethany Ambrosio, Isabel Ugolini, Lauren Perlman and Shayna Zeitlin was super, holding down that powerful Panther attack. In goal today was Cara B, Lauren P, Kaitlyn K, Sophia L and Shayna Z who each did a fine job. Kristin Granieri and Taylor D, we missed you.
Panthers vs. Lightning – The Panthers and Lightning treated all of the Moms on Mothers Day to an exciting contest. The Lightning Jumped out to an early lead, but the Panthers offense lead by Tiffany Velin, Edna Dudek and Mackenzie Griffin fought back, keeping the ball in Lightning territory.The Lightning drove down field, threatening to extend their lead, but were denied, thanks to a beautiful save by Panther goalie Ciara Lennon. The second half of play saw both teams moving the ball up and down the field. Panther forward Natalie Giordano displayed her usual quick feet, distributing the ball to her teammates, while Ally Petricca dominated the middle on defense, clearing the ball on numerous occasions well into the Lightning’s side of the field. Midway through the second half, the Lightning moved within striking distance, but Hannah Dienstag and Julia Kosinski teamed up to take the ball out of scoring distance. Panther goalie Edna Dudek stole another Lightning scoring opportunity, by making an incredible diving save. Another long clear by Petricca to Griffin put the ball past midfield. Griffin found a wide open Tiffany Velin, who took the ball the rest of the way for a Panthers score.

BU-13 NHP Cougars vs Wantagh Seaford Blue Fury
On a bright, sunny Mother’s Day Sunday, the New Hyde Park Cougars took on the Wantagh Seaford Blue Fury. As the first half played, it was back and forth for both teams. Lorenzo Ugarte playing SPECTACULAR defense, stepped in and saved a goal for the Cougars. Scott LaMarca and Michael Zornberg boxed out the Blue Fury offense for most of the day. Going into halftime, the score was a 0-0 tie. As the second half started, the Cougars had a look of determination to score a goal. And they did with approximately eight minutes left in the game. On a ball that the Cougars pushed up from the defensive end, Steve Sumba (assist) got his foot on the ball and fed it to Keita Wantanabe who got it passed the Blue Fury goalie. Staying determined, the Cougars were on fire. Cristian Hildago controlled the ball with LIGHTNING SPEED as he made every moment count. It was inspiring to see the communication from Cristian even when he wasn’t in the play. Rinki Hirabayashi, Matthew Sartoris, and Dominick Rossi held the ball well on the midfield end. Rohit Basu and Anthony DiMarco made all the right moves. Once again, Yovan Kumar was outstanding in the net. It was a great way for the Cougars to celebrate Mother’s Day with their First Win!!! Keep up the teamwork Boys!!
