The Hicksville Superintendent of Schools Maureen Bright recently mailed a letter to the parents of Hicksville students attending non-public schools, which asked them to expedite their decisions about where their children will attend school for the coming year.
This letter cited the current economic environment as an impetus for people to consider enrolling their children in the public schools next year. It also placed unnecessary pressure on them to “make their decision as soon as possible” and “register your child immediately.” There is no cut-off for registration in this district and schools are obligated to educate all residents whenever they decide to register.
It can be to the advantage of the Catholic school parents to wait to make their decision because of the opportunities created by the Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation financial assistance program offered by the Diocese of Rockville Centre. The assistance awards will not be announced until mid-June and may have a direct impact on parents’ decisions for the future education of their children.
