TOPSOCCER

The seniors were awesome! Dominating the veterans from the first whistle, the only thing that eluded them was finding the net. Numerous shots had the goalie reeling but Jay managed to keep all the shots out of the net in the 1st half. Debbie Chin made the goalie’s job a breeze by stopping all attacks and not allowing one shot on goal the entire period. The players honed in on their passing skills and moved the ball much more effectively in the second half, culminating in goals by Robert Vittiglio, Adam Strominger and Stefani Egre. The lone score for the veterans came just before the final whistle off Rich’s knee. The juniors were a lot closer, ending in a 4-4 tie. The Red Hot Apples had goals from Harrison Stein (2), Sam Duggan and Christopher Cooney. Tristan Yang had great passes and Andrea Cellucci was the star defender. The Super Grovers came back with goals by Nelson Molina (2), Josh Birnbaum and Nick Mininson. Charlie Hinz made 2 outstanding saves in goal and Josh Hom was the rock-solid defender. No practice next week but we’re back on May 30th. Rich Bletsch, Director

Soccer Stars vs. The Firecrackers

Playing the tough Firecrackers, the Soccer Stars started out very solid, keeping the ball in control, making nice passes and nice footwork. The defense was very impressive as Tiffany Moreno and Channing Woo blocked many runs by the Firecrackers pushing the ball up to the forwards for the first goal of the game by Isabelle Glennon from a beautiful pass from Isabella Mirro. Nice Teamwork!! The Firecrackers came back strong as the Soccer Stars tried to preserve their lead. Excellent mid-field plays by Irene Tsahas playing very smart, passing the ball up the sidelines and down the field to her offensive line led by Isabelle Glennon, Daniela O’Modie and Gabriella Caicedo who made many fast runs with the ball toward goal. Making many impressive saves in goal, once again the amazing Irene Krische, In goal for the second half of play, making her first appearance as goalie for the Soccer Stars was Channing Woo who stepped up to the plate, making many countless saves and taking charge of the ball. Great Goal-tending Channing!! The Firecrackers started very strong in the second half of play and took on a 2 goal lead, however the Soccer Stars did not give up. Playing very aggressively and with the pressure on, Daniela O’Modie makes a beautiful pass to Isabelle Glennon who netted a loop ball shot over the goalie for her second goal of the game. Great Goal! As time is ticking away, the Soccer Stars keeping possession of the ball, Alina Kachar, Ariana Kaloudis and Randi Sarf doing a superb job distributing the ball around looking for an open teammate as Isabelle Glennon gets the ball away from the Firecrackers defense for her third beautiful goal of the game in the corner of the net to tie up the match for the Soccer Stars and a Hat Trick for her! Way to Go Izzy!! Everyone is a Winner!! We saw great teamwork, and a lot of very nice plays on the field. Thank You for All your support, families, friends, refs, Coaches make this happen. Missing Orna Kidanian.

Soccer Stars vs. Kitty Kats –

On a overcast Sunday morning, the Soccer Stars came out shining. Lots of action throughout the game. First half in goal for the Soccer Stars, was the unprecedented performance of Irene Krische making many, many amazing saves in goal running side to side, hugging and punting the ball out rapidly down the field. We saw plenty of great passes, controlling of the ball, aggressiveness and marking each Kitty Kat player extremely close running them to the sidelines for their attempts toward goal. The Soccer Stars outstanding defense players, Channing Woo and Isabella Mirro made it difficult for the Kitty Kats to dribble around them, and who played the person while aggressively watching their every move. Great Defense Channing and Isabella!! Assisting both her offense and defense players was the amazing Irene Tsahas running up and down the field, whenever that ball was, Irene Tsahas was there to break up the play and make the pass down the field to her offense led by the Alina Kachar, Gabriella Caicedo, who played an unbelievable game today following thru every ball, never giving up and assisting in the first goal of the game made by Daniela O’Modie. Way to Go Soccer Stars!! The Soccer Stars were revved up today. Alina Kachar playing very smart today, holding her position well and anticipating a pass towards goal box area. Irene Krische with many saves, punts out the ball to the mid-field line to Irene T. who then turned to make a great pass to Daniela O’Modie who shoots a nice low ball to the left side post for her second great goal of the game Each and every player was on the ball. Orna Kidaninas throw-Ins were fast, high and long over the heads of the Kitty Kats and down the sidelines to Irene Tsahas who dribbled around the Kitty Kats defense, one on one with the goalie, kicks a beautful high ball to the corner of the net for her first goal of the game. Great Goal Irene Tsahas!! The Soccer Stars kept the fire going, down the field with a great pass this time by Isabella Mirro in defense to Irene Tsahas for another break-away for her second great goal of the game! Way to Go Irene T. In the second half of play in goal for the Soccer Stars was Channing Woo who displayed quite a great show blocking strong kicks taken by Kitty kats, and moving post to post wherever the ball was to preserve her lead. Tiffany Moreno and Isabella Mirro holding extremely strong in defense, breaks up the attack for a great pass up the field to Ariana Kaloudis who played outstanding game, following thru the ball, one on one with the opponent, dribbling up the field to just outside the goal box takes a nice shot that was blocked by the Kitty Kats goalie and there was Irene Tsahas following each play and right on target to find the loose ball around the goalie for her third terrific goal of the game. Hat Trick for Irene Tsahas!! The Kiity Kats kept on going strong, ready for the run, comes a great ball to Gabriella Caicedo who quickly looked up and around to make a terrific pass to the amazing Irene Tsahas who netted her fourth goal of the game. Way to Follow that Ball! Soccer Stars played a truly superb game of Soccer. We are So veryu Proud of All Players. U-9

The final game of the regular season pitted the “Hustling” Panthers vs. the “High Flying” Cubs. The Cubs jumped out to an early lead, but the Panthers tied the score thanks to a cross field pass from Natalie Giordano to Tiffany Velin, who scored from the right side. For the remainder of the first half, both teams moved the ball up and down the field, often threatening to score, but were denied due to heads the up defense of both teams. The second half once again saw both teams moving the ball, but were stopped by two tough defenses. With two minutes left, it looked as thought the Cubs were going to break the tie, but Ally Petricca took matters into her own hands, clearing the ball past both teams into Cubs territory. Mackenzie Griffin took the clear, drove to the Cubs goal just missing the go ahead goal by inches. The game ended in a tie, but both teams celebrated because they had played their hearts out!

GU9 PRE-TRAVEL MAJOR: NHP – 2, MASSAPEQUA – 2

In a fever-pitch game that saw several lead changes, the girls came up even against a tough Massapequa squad.  After Massapequa took an early lead in the first half, NHP came storming back as Katie Krems scored the equalizer off a nice feed from Casey Sanders on D. The first half ended 1-1.  NHP took the lead, seconds into the second half, when the girls took the kickoff and Theodora Papadoniou (Left Fwd) fed Katie K (right Fwd) who went far-post make it 2-1. Things were looking up until Mass got a fluke goal that bounced over our goalie’s head to tie the game 2-2 about half way thru the 2d half. Both teams had good chances to put in the game winner, but neither side could convert. The game got a little wacky in the end with the goalie shuffle, but we had our reasons for making those changes – enough said. The attack was led by Tiffany Velin (just missed on 2 great chances), Katie K (2 goals & nice passes), and Sophia Leeds (nice set shots).  The D was led by Casey Sanders (super clears), Theodora (great passes), Kira Crehan (super running), Jordyn Siegel (super tough), Isabel Ugolini (nice moves), and Bethany Ambrosio (nice moves) who each did a super job breaking up numerous Massapequa attacks and kept the pressure in their zone. Edna Dudek was superb in goal, once again.

GU9 PRE-TRAVEL INTERMEDIATE: HICKSVILLE – 4, NHP – 1

In a game that was a lot closer than the score indicated, NHP Team Blue came up short against a very physical Hicksville squad. NHP dominated the early play, but could only tally 1 goal (Sophia Leeds) before Hicksville started playing hockey instead of soccer – and they scored 3 quick goals before halftime. The hockey playing continued into the 2d half, and we had enough – and pulled our girls from the pitch in protest. After about 3 minutes of making our point, the game settled down and despite our multiple chances to score goal after goal, we just came up short making it a closer contest. Our attack was led by Cara Becker (great running), Deirdre Lynch (nice passing), Katie K (nice passes and shots), Dylan Sanders (just missed), Siobhan McMullan (good running), and Sophia Leeds (very nice goal). The D was led by Lauren Perlman (nice blocks), Casey Sanders (super clears), Camryn Dluginksi (super tough and great assist on Sophia’s goal) and Shayna Zeitlin (great running). Taking turns in goal was Siobhan McMullan (very good job) and Shayna Zeitlin (only 1 goal allowed).

LIGHTNING – 4, LADY TIGERS – 6 –

In a high scoring old-fashioned shoot-out, the Lightning took on a powerful Lady Tiger squad. The first half was a slug fest with each team scoring multiple goals. Despite scoring 3 goals, the Lightning trailed a 4-3 going into the break. The second half was not quite as high flying, but each tallied goals and had multiple chances for many more. The game ended 6-4 in favor of the Lady Tigers.  The Lightning attack was led by Kaitlyn Krems who tallied all 4 Lightning goals (she had her Wheaties this day) – with lot of help from her teammates as Sophia Leeds, Cara Becker and Deirdre Lynch all had assists. Sophia Leeds had a super game, and just missed on 3 shots of her own – including 2 direct kicks. Cara B was also superb on the day and played Fwd, D and Goalie. The D was led by Lauren Perlman, Isabel Ugolini and Talylor Daher who each did a great game breaking up attacks. In goal was Kristin Granieri, Lauren, Isabel and Cara – who each did a fine job. Shayna and Bethany – we missed you.

U-10 NHP Tornado Tigers 6 vs. Hicksville Liberty 2 –

The home team from New Hyde Park played their finest half of the year scoring 5 goals in the second half of the game to win going away. After an impressive first half where both teams showed good defense, the Tornado Tigers offense broke out. Maggie Donnelly scored 4 goals in the game including an impressive kick with her left foot into the corner of the goal. Maggie scored in the first half to put the team ahead 1-0 off a nice pass from Jennifer Morrone. Jennifer scored in the second half off an excellent corner kick from Isabelle Brenes. Samantha Merino

scored the go ahead goal after halftime on a beautiful kick just inside the post. Isabelle Brenes, Kim Keblish and Milla Skugor dominated on defense, keeping the ball in the attacking zone for the offense. Julie Gordon and Debra Keller both played strong offensive games with some nice foot work and passing. Mariella Facibene showed her versatility playing very well in goal, on offense and especially on defense.

NHP Tornado Tigers 2 vs. Oceanside Xtreme 1

In thrilling fashion the Tornado Tigers edged a strong team from Oceanside. The Tornado Tigers were playing with only one sub but being undermanned was no match for their determination. Debra Keller and

Mariella Facibene played tremendous in goal. Mariella also scored the first goal of the game off a pass from Jennifer Morrone. Milla Skugor scored the winning goal on a breakaway when she split the defense on a terrific pass from Kim Keblish. Danielle Gerbe played a gutsy game on defense after an injury to her knee. Nicole Farishian played a solid game on both sides of the ball. Isabelle Brenes made a great play to clear a potential goal after an impressive save by Debra Keller.
