May 18
Dr. William Facibene MD PC “Thunder”
Vs. Knights of Columbus #2852 “Dragons”

The Thunder racked up eight big hits during the contest. Hits from Natalie Patrey, Jenna Marshiano, Mariella Facibene and Megan Quintilliano, among others, lead to runs for the team. Theresa Mattei contributed to the team’s run count by getting on base 3 times and stealing 3 bases. Monica Mattei, Sophie Robinson and Christina Ferrante took to the hill to pitch for the Thunder, striking out a combined six Dragon batters. Katie DeMeo and Emily Hartmann took on the catching duties, while Kasey Borduas, Krista Sollecito and EliseGonzalez anchored the team’s defensive play.

Vs Notre Dame CYO “Cubs”

The Athletics provided plenty of hitting down at the yard this week. Our team’s slugger awards go to A. Gullo, M Keler, A Newman, C Carbone, CJ Riccobono, M Femia, N Labita, M Calandrea and J Tamara. Our Gold Glove Awards Go to A Gullo, A Newman, C Carbone, CJ Riccobono, & M Femia. Our Sandlot Slugger award goes to S Derocchis leading the card with 3 RBI’s. Till next time “always run ‘em out”.

Vs. the Dr. William Facibene MD PC “Nationals”

The Nationals were led on offense by Alex Banks, who smashed two doubles, and on defense by Alan Birnbaum, who was involved in getting all three outs in the same inning against the Padres while playing third base. The Nationals’ Matthew Reda, Shayne Simoncini and Chris Haughwout paced the team on the base paths, scoring two runs apiece. They were driven home on key hits by Kevin Langan, John Tagios, Nicholas Barry, Daniel Mattei, P.J. Vayias, and Daniel Goldberg.

Dr. William Facibene MD PC “Nationals”
Vs. Mike’s New Hyde Park Convenience Store “Athletics”

The Nationals had 2 high-scoring innings but it was the team’s defensive performances which provided the game’s highlights. Sharing time at first base, Daniel Mattei and Daniel Goldberg turned in terrific games in the field while pitcher John Tagios and catcher Nicholas Barry combined in one inning to force out two Athletics at home plate. Kevin Langan, Alex Banks, Matt Reda and Alan Birnbaum continued their hot hitting, as did their teammates, Chris Haughwout, P.J. Vayias, Shayne Simoncini and John Vlantis.

The Athletics were at it again down at the yard this week , with timely hitting and fielding. Our Slugger Awards go to A. Gullo, CJ Riccobono, S. Derocchis, J. Tamara , N Labita, M. Schultz, M. Calandrea , M Coluccio and M. Femia. Our Gold Glove Awards go to C. Carbone and A. Newman. Our Platinum Glove Award goes to CJ Riccobono for his full extension catch at first base. Notre Dame CYO “Cubs” Vs. Dr. William Facibene “ Nationals”

 The Nationals had one of their best overall games of the season, with a balanced offensive attack being complimented by some excellent defensive play. Matt Reda, Daniel Mattei and P.J. Vayias scored two runs each to lead the Nationals in that department. They were driven home off hits by Chris Haughwout, Alex Banks, Nicholas Barry and John Tagios. Alan Birnbaum and John Vlantis continue to show dramatic improvement at the plate, too. The Nationals defense was led by Kevin Langan, whose grab of a Cubs fly ball led to a double play, and Daniel Goldberg, who also caught a hard-hit ball for a key out near the end of the game.

May 14
Grant Thornton “Brewers” Vs. Stutzmann Funeral Home “Angels”

The Brewers offense was led by Jesse Romano who hit a double and triple and earned three RBI’s. Additional strong offense was provided by Lou Mangia who scored 4 runs, Sean O’Leary who hit a single and scored 3 runs, Michael Kurre who hit a single and earned 3 RBI’s and Daryl Moon who earned 2 RBI’s. Herbie Hagerman earned a walk and stole a base. Two innings of shut out pitching by Lou Mangia as well as strong pitching by Sean O’Leary and Daryl Moon helped the defense. The game ended with the Brewers pulling off a triple play by Jesse Romano (2 outs) and Sean O’Leary (1out).

May 16
Grant Thornton “Brewers”
Vs. Dominick’s Italian American Deli “Marlins”

Pitching by Anthony Depompeis, Michael Kurre & Jesse Romano led the defense. Lou Mangia hit a triple and scored a run, Sean O’Leary hit a single and a double while scoring 2 runs and earning an RBI. Jesse Romano scored a run, Anthony Depompeis hit a 3 run HR and also a triple which earned him the fourth RBI of the game for Anthony. Brandon Knupfer and Nicholas Ryan each earned an RBI. Michael Smith hit a solid single and Michael Kurre stole 2 bases.

May 17
Hillside Beverage “Rangers” Vs. Dr. Margaret Zadnick DDS PC “Phillies”

The Rangers offense was lead by Dean Vayais & Matt Fitzgerald. The Rangers received outstanding pitching performances from Alex Russo, Conner Wong & Dean Vayias. The defense also sparkled as Alex Russo & Sean McCellan teamed to turn a game ending double play.


Baxter’s Sport Shop “Diamondbacks’’
Vs. Dominick’s Italian & American Deli “Marlins”

The Diamondbacks lost a thriller 13-12 versus the mighty Marlins. Hitting stars included Jack Tucker (HR), Ben Newman (multiple hits & RBIs), Jared Kaiman (4-4 with a triple), Jordan Greiff (multiple hits & RBIs) and Brian Volk. Solid pitching was performed by Elliot Weissman, Raymond Gresalfi, Jordan Greiff and Brian Volk. Providing stellar defense were Charlie Goodwin, Christopher Kerrane and Dylan Kareff.

Grant Thornton “Brewers” Vs. Dominick’s Italian American Deli “Marlins”

 Another 5 inning game was played against the Marlins to complete a two game series. Dharyl Moon pitching 1 shutout inning and additional strong pitching by Lou Mangia and Sean O’Leary led the defense. Sean O’Leary led the offense with a triple and 3 RBI’s. Michael Kurre hit a solid double down the third base line. Both Lou Mangia and Jesse Romano hit singles and earned an RBI. Nicholas Castelli stole two bases and scored a run. Luke Pullo hit a single stole a base and scored a run. Nick Ryan scored a run and Scott Goodman scored 2 runs. Michael Smith did a great job playing catcher for the first time.


May 21
Hillside Beverage “Rangers” Vs. Grant Thornton LLP “Brewers”

In what turned out to be a real barn burner. Both the Rangers And Brewers came with their hitting shoes on. Each inning the lead changed hands. The Ranger offense was lead by Conner Wong who was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and an amazing 6 RBI’s. In the bottom of the 6th inning Frank Stigliano hit a screaming line drive single which plated a run.

May 9
Gair, Gair, Conason, Steigman & Mackauf “Astros”
Vs. Iron Horse Transportation “Mariners”

In the first inning, David Lapidus caught a relay throw, turned and gunned a runner out at the plate. David later turned an unassisted double play when he grabbed a line drive and beat the runner back to second base. Mike Hershenhorn did a great job at second base while Jonathan Farkas & Slater Dvoor each pitched a strong 3 innings. Corey Rutkin was stellar behind the plate and he singled twice. Tyler Weiss continued his hot hitting with another double & Jared Schwartz exploded with a single, a triple, 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored. Dylan Silverstein smoked the ball, stole a base and scored as did Kyle Berlinksy who singled and stole some bases before scoring. Andrew Kadish had some nice at bats and was strong in the field as was Cole Romano.

May 14
Bagels And A Whole Lot More “Bears”
Vs. Dr. William Facibene, MD, PC “Cyclones”

Vincent Patrey & Liam Slattery provided solid pitching against a strong Cyclones offense. Vincent Patrey, Liam Slattery, David Kimmel, Andrew Schneider, Tommy Labruna, Alex Putter, & Zach Schreiber all had key hits. Zach Schreiber provided strong catching behind the plate. Daniel Hodes hit the long ball and drove in 3 runs. Solid infield turned in by Vincent Patrey & Gregory Kyro who played flawless defense. Solid at bats were had by Nicolas Persaud reaching base and scoring. A solid win turned in by the Bears.

May 16
Bagels And A Whole Lot More “Bears”
Vs. State Bank of Long Island “Pride”

The Bears turned in a fine hitting performance as every player had at least 1 hit. Gregory Kyro provided strong lead off along with Zach Schreiber allowing the 3-4-5 hitters, Liam Slattery, Daniel Hodes and Gary Huang to drive them in. Great pitching turned in by Daniel Hodes who struck out 5 and gave up 0 earned runs in 3 innings. Zach Schreiber came in, in relief, and struck out 7 in 3 innings. Key hits by Nicholas Persaud who went 2-2 with a walk, Brett Baker, David Kimmel and Tommy Labruna also had multiple hits and scored runs. Another solid victory turned in by the Bears.
