Hicksville Chamber June Luncheon Meeting
Guest speaker: Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice. Since taking office, Ms. Rice has initiated a number of reforms. She has taken an aggressive stance against plea bargaining of DWI cases and worked with the court system to create a DWI court to efficiently manage thousands of drunk-driving cases on a case-by-case basis each year. She has taken a hard line against child predators and has cracked down on identity theft. Her priority is to ensure that Nassau remains one of the safest counties. Members and prospective members are welcome to attend. Buffet luncheon held at Peppercorns, 25 East Marie St,, Hicksville, at 12:30 p.m. The cost to all, both members and prospective members is $18.

Wine Tasting/Poetry/Taste of Huntington
An evening of wine tasting, poetry and a taste of Huntington will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Walt Whitman House, 246 Old Walt Whitman Rd., West Hills, to benefit Last Hope Animal Rescue of Syosset. The evening will feature wines donated by Stew Leonard’s, select readings of Walt Whitman poems by “The Walt Whitman Project, Greg Trupiano, artistic director, and a selection of treats from several Huntington restaurants. Vacation Bible School
The Hicksville United Methodist Church, 130 W. Old Country Rd., invites children to go to the edge this summer at Camp E.D.G.E. (Experience and Discover God Everywhere). This extreme adventure camp takes kids on exciting Bible treks. The fun begins July 27 and ends July 31 from 9 a.m. to noon. To be a part of the experience call Jennifer Eichenauer 931-2626. Local Marines/Families Golf Outing
The 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines Association will host its third Annual Golf Outing at Eisenhower Park on Aug. 3 to raise funds for the support of local Marine Reservists and their families. Play will take place on the Red and White Courses with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Check in begins at 10 a.m., followed by a barbeque lunch. Play will be followed by a buffet dinner at the Carltun. Proceeds will help the nonprofit organization provide comfort and support to family members of deployed Marines; care packages for those on the frontlines of the War on Terror; and if need be, funds will be used to assist wounded Marines or provide for the survivors of any killed in the line of duty. Mercy League Trip

Renault Winery and overnight at Atlantic City’s Resorts Casino. The Glen Cove, Hicksville, Syosset Mercy League is going on Aug. 11 and 12 on this fun overnight. The trip includes a tour of the Renault Winery with luncheon, dancing and open bar at the winery. The on to Resorts Casino for the overnight stay. Learn Sign Language
The Mill Neck Foundation for Deaf Ministry Sign Language Camp for Hearing Kids invites children ages 8 to 16 to learn a new language and have fun. Held on the campus of Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, the camp teaches beginning sign language in an enjoyable and unique way. In two sessions (July 13 through 17 and July 20 through 24), campers are divided by age (ages 8 to 12 and 13 to 16). Through activities, games and arts and crafts, campers are taught the sign language alphabet and numbers as well as signs for animals, foods, colors and much more. Campers in session one will have basic conversations in sign by the end of the camp and those with a prior knowledge of the language in session two will build on their current skills and focus on conversational sign. At the end of each week, a special presentation will be held for friends and family about what the students learned. Campers eat lunch daily with deaf students and interact with Mill Neck students during games, storytelling and swimming sessions. Classes are led by deaf instructors with hearing teacher assistance. Camp is held from 8:30 am to 3:30 p.m. daily and costs $230 per child (includes lunch and a book, arts and crafts, a notebook, a bag and more). Enrollment is limited. Call For Craft Vendors
Mill Neck Manor is calling for vendors of handmade items for its Annual Fall Harvest Festival, held on Oct. 10 and 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A favorite tradition on LI, visitors eagerly await the festival for its crafts, apples, pumpkins, pies and other delicious treats. Country crafts, offering handmade items and holiday gifts, are one of the festival’s main features. If you make or sell crafts and feel that you would be a great addition to the Festival, you are encouraged to apply. Vendors are assigned an outdoor space (10’x10’) with a table and two chairs. All vendors are required to have a tent or canopy; those vendors who do not own a suitable tent may rent one from Mill Neck Manor for a small fee.
